REIGN
Project REIGN - IREC 2025
In June 2025, ODRC was the first ever team to represent ODU at IREC. Despite being one of the newest teams to the competition, we won 11th in the 10k COTS section and 15th place overall in 2025.
REIGN was a 5 in diameter rocket that flew on an Aerotech M1845NT motor. Standing tall at 9' 11", it reached apogees of 9,880 ft. Its payload was a ballast concrete mass, and its avionics bay was a three-sided sled that housed its batteries inside. A livestream camera was also situated on the avionics bay. For full technical details, a PDF of our poster is below.
Our team focused particularly on safety and reliability. One of our key achievements includes conducting an in-depth safety analysis for fin flutter, a critical aspect for safety per the IREC minimum safety and testing requirements. For this purpose, we built Resonance, a test-bed rocket, just to test fin flutter with varying fins.
Test Flight 3/15/25 - Bayboro, NC
Our team had the opportunity to test fly REIGN in March of 2025, 3 months before IREC. In addition to ground-testing, this allowed us to test our deployment systems, and we confirmed functionality for our livestream camera.
Video feed from both flights is available on our youtube.
